The Environment Agency (EA) is the statutory environmental regulator in England. Established in April 1996 by the Environment Act 1995 to combine the functions of the (former) National Rivers Authority (NRA), Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) and Waste Regulation Authorities. They provide advice, issue guidance, Environmental Permits for a range of activities and exemptions from permitting.
They also collect and collate data as part of an operator's statutory duty to provide Quarterly Data Returns on the activity that they are managing and/or operating. These data returns are inputted onto their Waste Interrogater tool which is available as part of the Open Government Licence.
