Producer Responsibility enshrines the principle that the producers of goods should take greater responsibility for the management of those goods at the end of their useful life, especially for their take-back, recycling, and disposal. In the UK it is embedded through The Producer Responsibility Obligations. There are currently UK-wide producer responsibility schemes in place [1] for:
- Packaging Waste - PRN system.
- End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV)
- Batteries and accumulators
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
The existing system is currently under review to review the existing Producer Responsibility systems, and also develop new Extended Producer Responsibility schemes.
