Summary
Hooton Bio Power is an EfW facility currently under construction in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The facility will utilize Advanced Conversion Technologies to process 240,000 tonnes per annum and generate 25.2 MW of electricity which will be exported to the grid after the facility’s own power needs are met. The facility has been developed by CoGen with BWSC as the turnkey EPC contractor and O&M provider. In 2018, the facility was sold to Aviva Investors[1].
History
The project reached financial close in October 2018, with BWSC beginning construction in November 2018. Construction and commissioning is scheduled to end with operations commencing in the second half of 2021[2].
Plant
The facility will utilize 2 lines of a fluidised bed Gasification system provided by Kobelco Eco Solutions. CoGen will continue to be involved in the project’s delivery through long-term Management Service Agreements (MSA)[1].
The Hooton Bio Power facility will be the first non-subsidized merchant Gasification facility in the UK, and the largest Gasification facility in the UK of its size and technology type[3].
Waste Input
The waste aggregator N+P will supply the waste for the facility, providing locally-sourced waste under a 15-year feedstock supply agreement[1].
