Planning permission for mineral extraction and restoration by landfilling was granted in 1995 on appeal (N/93/37646), site operations commenced in 1998. This planning permission envisaged completion of landfilling by 2015 and site restoration within 18 months of that. Subsequently, in 2005 an application was made that sought to extend the life of the landfill operations at the site until 2023.
