[[Recycling Credits are paid between WDAs and WCAs. Payments were introduced, within the Environmental Protection (Waste Recycling Payments) Regulations 2006[1], to incentivise Waste Collection Authorities to boost recycling and reuse by diverting waste from landfill.

Waste management infrastructure has changed considerably since this Regulation was introduced, and not all WDAs to use the option.[2]

Some council's provide a financial incentive to third parties, such as charitable or non-for-profit organisations, that recycle different waste materials, with the view that the activities are diverting household waste from landfill through recycling or composting schemes.
