Summary
An EfW facility based upon conventional combustion technology and presently in early stage construction. Rookery Pit ERF has a permitted capacity of 585,000 tonnes per annum. The project is being developed by Covanta and is owned by Covanta (80%), Veolia (20%) and Covanta and Green Investment Group (80%).
Technology
The plant technology will comprise standard moving grate technology, producing super-heated steam with an operational capacity of 545,000 tonnes per annum, generating and 60MWe [1].
Construction
The plant gained planning consent in 2013, reached financial close in March 2019, and will delivered by an EPC turnkey arrangement with Hitachi Zosen Inova. An operational date is programmed for 2022 after a lengthy legal challenge to the development came to an end in November 2019 focused on the issue of the Environmental Permit [2].
Waste Input
The plant is intended to run on residual Household Waste and Commercial Waste provided by Veolia.
