The landfill is constructed as a Containment Facility, utilizing the re-worked siltstone and slate derived clay materials as the principal barrier. The landfill lining system is augmented with a flexible membrane liner of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) on the base and the lower part of the sidewalls. The sidewalls are steeply graded and required buttressing to enable construction within the 40+ metre deep quarry.
