Summary
An EfW facility based upon conventional combustion technology that was granted planning permission in December 2020 and has a permitted capacity of 84,900 tonnes per annum. This consent replaced an earlier consent for a gasification technology with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum.
The site is part of the wider activity at Binn Eco Park, near Perth, Scotland, owned by the Binn Group, and investment has been agreed for the facility with Iona Capital[1].
Technology
The plant technology will comprise standard moving grate technology, with an operational capacity of 89,00 tonnes per annum, generating 8.6MWe with 7.3MWe net for export.
Construction
The plant gained planning permission in December 2020. Construction was originally reported to commence in 2021 with operational handover in 2024. Earlier reports were the project would cost £70 million to deliver[2]. A press release in March 2022 announced the appointment of TIRU as the construction contractor and operator of the plant with an aspiration to still deliver the plant by 2024[3].
Waste Input
The plant is intended to run on residual Household Waste and Commercial Waste from the adjacent processing facilities on the site.
