Summary
Also known as Evermore this Combined Heat and Power Biomass EfW facility is based on up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of waste wood producing 15.8 MW of electricity and 6 MW of heat. The facility is located in Derry in Northern Ireland[2]. The feedstock is supplied locally under a long-term fuel contract with Stobart Biomass and the energy generated is purchased under a long-term contact with Power NI[3].
The facility was developed by Evermore Energy (ERE Developments Limited), and is operated by Burmeister Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC), who also provided turnkey EPC services for this facility. Operations started at the end of 2015 after construction began in mid-2013[2].
This facility was the first biomass fired power station to be developed in Northern Ireland and remains the largest[4].
Plant
The facility cost £83m to develop and funding was provided by investors Investec, UK Green Investment Bank, Gravis, and EKF[2].
The boiler technology implemented at the facility was supplied by Weiss Kessel-Anlagen-und Maschinenbau GmbH[2].
Tonnage Input/Fuel
The tonnage received by the plant in the most recent Annual Sustainability Report for 2018-19[5] was reported by Ofgem as follows:
Biomass | Tonnage (2018-19) |
---|---|
Wood Waste | 110,467 |
Other | 0 |
Total | 110,467 |
The Wood Waste tonnage received cannot be directly compared with the stated historical tonnage received and recorded in the NIEA statistics as these are recorded on a calendar year basis (i.e. January 2018 to December 2018) and not currently available.
