Residual Waste
Residual waste is the term that encompasses all waste left over after all the Recyclable material has been separated out.
Residual Waste is regarded as having too high an economic and environmental cost to further separate, that these negative impacts outweigh any benefits created from separating further.
Residual Waste therefore can contain a wide mix of materials that have not been considered economically or environmentally for further separation, and can include resources such as plastics, paper and biodegradable materials such as food. Residual Waste can be used as a feedstock for Energy from Waste (EfW). Residual Waste can be considered a partially renewable or a low carbon energy source because of the energy produced from the fraction that is considered renewable.
