The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the professional body for resource and waste professionals. It supports its members by providing technical and career advice, information, training and networking. It sets and maintains professional standards, developing and sharing knowledge and best practice. It seeks to provide an impartial, influential and respected voice for the sector in policy discussions in the UK. CIWM has over 5500 members, is incorporated by Royal Charter and is a charity [1].

Events

As the pre-eminent institution CIWM organise high profile events for members and waste and resource professionals. These provide an opportunity to discover the latest thinking, share innovative best practice and to network with peers [2]

CIWM are partners of the RWM Exhibition, one of the yearly industry events.

Training

CIWM and WAMITAB jointly operate the industry competence scheme. The ongoing management and development of the scheme covers primary competence and continuing competence[3]. CIWM is planning on fully integrating WAMITAB into CIWM with a full merger of the two organisations is expected at the end of 2021, with CIWM taking over the development and awarding of WAMITAB’s portfolio of qualifications in January 2022 [4].
