Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is a Government Department which was created on the 14 July 2016 through a merger between the Government Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The department is responsible for government policy in areas such as business regulations and support, Climate Change, Company Law, Competition, Energy, Regional and local economic development, science and research and trade.

Following a mini government reshuffle in February 2023 BEIS was merged with the Department for International Trade to form a new Department for Business and Trade. The energy portfolio and climate policy responsibilities were transferred to the new department Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNEZ).
