FCC (FCC Environment (UK) Ltd) is one of the major waste and recycling companies in the UK and is a subsidiary of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratasoperates. It is focused on Local Authority and Business Waste across the UK, employing nearly 2,400 people across a range of MRFs, EfW facilities and Landfill sites[1].

History

Waste Recycling Group (WRG) (previously Anti-Waste Ltd) acquired Hanson Waste Management from Hanson plc in 2000, with WRG then in turn acquired by Terra Firma Capital Partners in 2003. Fomento de Construcciones y Contratasoperates then acquired WRG from Terra Firma Capital Partners (excluding the Landfill Gas assets) in 2006. FCC Environment was then formed through the merger of Fosca Services and Waste Recycling Group in 2012.

In 2020 FCC formed Green Recovery Projects Ltd, a new company for its Energy from Waste portfolio to allow the subsequent sale of 49% to Icon Infrastructure. Sites include Allington EFW, Eastcroft EfW (Lines 1 & 2), Greatmoor EfW, Millerhill EfW and Lincolnshire EFW[2].

In December 2023 it was announced that FCC had agreed to acquire Urbaser's UK waste business for a figure of c.£398m, with the transaction anticipated to complete in the second quarter of 2024[3]. The acquisition includes Javelin Park EfW, EnviRecover - Hartlebury EFW, Biowise, and J&B Recycling as well as a number of Local Authority contracts that were acquired from Amey in 2021.
