Summary
An EfW facility based upon conventional combustion technology, located at the site of the old coal fired power station in Ratcliffe-on-Soar. The EMERGE EfW Plant is forecast to have a capacity of c.500,000 tonnes per annum generating 49.9MW with around 43.4MW of electricity exported. The site has been developed by Uniper with planning consent granted in July 2021[1] and the Environmental Permit consultation ran between January and February 2022[2] and was issued in early March.
The Uniper website suggests construction would commence 2023, with full commercial operation in early 2026[3].
Technology
The moving-grate combustion technology is not defined as yet in the public domain or in the Environmental Permit application. The design set out in the Environmental Permit draft decision notice is based upon 7,884 hours per year of operation at a nominal 33 tonnes per line (equating to 2 lines) with a R1 rating of 0.76 (classifying it as Recovery facility).
Construction
The EPC and Operational and Management arrangements are not presently in the public domain.
Waste Input
The facility Environmental Permit maximum tonnage is 524,550 tonnes per annum, with the planning document suggesting a target tonnage of 472,100 tonnes per annum at the target NCV. It is anticipated to accept residual waste as feedstock, RDF and potential residues from treatment processes including AD and MBT.
