Source Separated Collection is generally referred to with Dry Recyclables waste collection but can also be referred to in the collection of other waste streams with no mixing i.e. Food Waste and Green Waste

In the case of a Waste Collection Authority this may be via Kerbside sort - which involves the sorting of materials (usually presented by residents in one or more 55 litre boxes) at the kerbside into different compartments of a specialist collection vehicle. However, in the case of Business Waste it may be the provision of a bin for a specific waste stream that is collected without mixing i.e. Cardboard

In some cases people refer to Twin Stream Collection as segregated collection, but this is more strictly a limited mixing of materials and is defined in in its own right

The collection arrangements can vary according to the broader Collection System Design and what specific materials are collected, the containers used, the frequency of collection, and in the case of Household Waste rather than Business Waste, they will also vary according to the way the service is linked to the collection of Food Waste, Green Waste and Residual Waste.
