Local Authorities in the North East of England all have a 'single-tier' authority administration, as they are all Unitary Authorities, and so the Waste Collection Authority and Waste Disposal Authority roles are combined. As a result the performance indicators on this page are the same as the page for Waste Collection North East.
In the North East the following Waste Disposal Authorities have, or are, in partnerships to procure treatment and disposal contracts, some of which are through PPP/PFI arrangements:
- Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) - Hartlepool Borough Council, Darlington Borough Council, Middlesbrough Council, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council
- South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership (STWWMP) - Gateshead Council, South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Metropolitan Borough Council
