Charlton Lane Eco Park

An EfW facility based upon Gasification technology with co-located facilities including AD, MRF, Bulking Facility and an HWRC. The Charlton Lane site (also known as Surrey Eco Park) has design combustion capacity of 55,000 tonnes per year.

The plant is designed to run on RDF produced from the adjacent MBT facility with a combustion capacity design of 55,000 tonnes a year, but actually tonnage closer to 45,000 tonnes a year. The entire facility operated by Suez[1].

Plant Description

The plant is a single line, fluidised bed Gasification plant by Outotec, generating super-heated steam to a turbine with a generation capacity of 3.9MW[1].

History

The plant commenced construction in summer 2015 under a turnkey EPC contract with MW High Tech Projects UK.

It was reported that the first waste for hot commissioning was accepted in late 2019 but full operation did not occur until 2022[2].

Three former directors of MW High Tech Projects UK were sued by the company for entering into the contract at £71m when it is alleged it should have been in excess of £100m[3].
