Sewage Waste Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facilities are generally co-located, and managed in tandem with, waste water treament works (also known as Sewage Treatment Works or STWs), treating primarily sewage wastes.

Whilst the focus is on sewage wastes, in some cases other commercial liquid wastes are processed. Typically Sewage Waste AD plants are large scale AD plants and often recover heat and power for use in the adjacent sewage treatment works and for export.
