Chilton Biomass Plant
Chilton Biomass Planr utilises a feedstock of up to 130,000 tonnes a year of waste wood to generate 17.5 MWe to be exported to the national grid.
The facility is located in the town of Chilton in Durham.

Plant Description
The plant is based on standard combustion with a single line grate technology[2][3].
The facility has a design capacity of 14 tonnes per hour with a maximum annual consumption of 130,000 tonnes. This is at a continuous rating of 312 tonnes per day based on an average CV of 15 MJ/kg. The anticipated availability of 7,800 to 8,000 hours per annum (89%)[3].
The plant produces 17.45MWe gross (15.45MWe net) for export to the grid via a single turbine[3].
History
The facility was developed, built and continues to be operated by Veolia Bio Energy Ltd (now Veolia Biopower One UK Ltd for the permit), previously known as Dalkia Bio Energy Ltd.[1]
Construction started in early 2010 and it became operational in 2011[2] and cost £40 million to develop[1].
