Plant Description
The technology utilised in this facility are two lines of water-cooled moving grate furnaces, supplied by Turboden Srl (part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group).
Turboden Srl also supplied the ‘organic rankin cycle’ (ORC) turbogenerators with air condensers for the facility which uses ‘organic fluid’ vapour as the driving force for the turbine within a closed loop heating circuit[3][4].
The plant is designed to generate 6.7MWe[6].
History
The project was developed by UYE (UK) and was financed and taken forwards by Equitix ESI Captial[4].
In 2023 Gren (owned by Partners Group) acquired the asset from Equitix alongside a number of other projects[5].
The Design and Build EPC contractor for this development was Kandor Energy Ltd[2][3].
The facility cost £30m to develop and became operational in 2017[3].
This facility is a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, enough heat is produced and harnessed to supply approximately 6,700 local homes and commercial properties[1] equivalent to 1.2MWth[7].
Mid UK were originally contracted to supply the wood waste under a 10 year contract[1].
The permit holder of the plant is Gren CHP (Sheffield) Ltd, and was originally operated under contract by Veolia[4][7]. From 2019 the operating contract has been delivered by px ltd[8].
