Markinch
A Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility, Markinch CHP is designed to process up to 550,000 tonnes per year of waste wood and virgin wood and which has received some RDF and Anaerobic Digestion fibre.
The facility is located in Markinch in Fife, Scotland, and generates and supplies a large proportion of its power and heat to Tullis Russell Papermakers.

Plant Description
Metso power was awarded a contract worth £75m for the delivery of a 155MWth circulating fluidised bed boiler and flue gas treatment plant. Aker Solutions were awarded a £115m contract to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and project management. It was also responsible for the design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of the plant[3].
The technology uses a single line fluidised bed boiler and flue gas systems[4].
History
The plant replaced an the existing coal-fired plant at the paper mill site and required an investment of approximately £200m[1][2][3].
RWE, the owner and operator officially took over the site in November 2015[2][3].
The Markinch plant forms part of the Glenrothes Energy Network project and is working in partnership with Fife Council to install heat to a district heating network for Glenrothes through a newly constructed Energy Centre[1].
