Plant Description
The plant is being constructed under an EPCM arrangement with AFRY in co-operation with AFRY Solutions UK Ltd and AFRY Finland Oy.
The plant technology will comprise a single line of a standard moving grate technology, processing around 44 tonnes per hour of waste and producing super-heated steam and 40MWe with a net export of 35MWe and 12MWth of heat[3].
The grate and boiler was reported in July 2022 as being delivered by Hitachi Zosen Inova Steinmüller[4] now Kanadevia Inova[7].
History
The project was owned 50/50 by Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group (who sold their share to Gren in June 2024[1]) and Fortum Glasgow a subsidiary of Fortum Oyj[2].
The plant reached financial close in July 2022.
The plant is intended to run on residual Household Waste and Commercial Waste with NCV of between 8 to 15MJ/kg (with an average of 10MJ/kg) sourced from within Glasgow City and within the Clyde Valley[5]. Long term contracts were announced with Beauparc, Enva and Geminor and one other unnamed business in November 2022[6].
