Plant Description

The approach is an Advanced Conversion Technology (ACT) based on pressurised Gasification to produce a hydrogen-rich Syngas[5].

History

The original plant, based in Wednesbury, was devloped by Kew Technlogy as a demonstration scale project for its gasification technology[1].

Development occurred over 10 years, with >£35m of investment in the site, co-funded by the Energy Technologies Institute (a partnership between UK Government, BP, Rolls Royce, Shell, Caterpillar and E.ON)[1].

The Kew Technology business was wound up in March 2025 and a new business (incorporated in Feb 2025) seems to have taken on the facility and the busienss[2] (the permit reference is for the old facility but is not listed on line at present).

The new facility has recently demonstrated its technology in partnership with Veolcys and appears to have secured funding from Eren Groupe to progress syngas-related products such as sustainable aviation fuel[3].
