Plant Description
The technology in use at the plant is based on standard combustion via a bubbling Fluidised Bed technology system[2].
The majority of the energy produced has been historically consumed in the adjacent mill[3].
History
The biomass facility cost an estimated £59m[5].
The plant generates 24.8 MWe from a feedstock of biomass waste including waste paper, fibre, sludge and wood waste[1][2][6].
In 2016 a second steam turbine was brought on line at the facility which utilises excess steam from the biomass CHP plant[4].
UPM sold the business to Eren Paper Ltd in September 2021. Works are underway to move towards production of packaging and tissue[6].
