Plant Description
The plant is based on conventional combustion via an advanced grate that processes 20 tonnes per hour of wood chips, with a steam turbine from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding[2][3].
History
The plant commenced construction in October 2006 and was fully operational in November 2008. The plant cost £33m to construct via an EPC consortium contract between Aalborg Energie Technik (AET) and Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC)[2].
The Western Wood facility was owned by Western Bioenergy Ltd and Good Energies(UK) LLP as the principle shareholder (with a minority interest by Western Log Group who originally developed the project). ECO2 joined the project between 2004 and 2014 for fuel logistics and administration[1].
The plant is now owned by Greensphere Capital LLP.
